Victorian Keeper Ring

$1,850.00

We pick a little project to do every weekend. Something we can do together, get our hands a little dirty, learn a new skill. This weekend, we’re making challah. The dough started its rise overnight and now we’re in business. We each take half the dough and now it’s time for a braiding contest. Laughing, eyeing each other’s technique, we form two perfectly imperfect loaves.

A keeper ring, with its braided strands, was typically worn outside of a gemstone ring to “keep” it from sliding off the finger. But it's a beauty in its own right with a braid motif of alternating engraved coils. The entwined motif was a symbol of love and keeper rings became an early precursor to the modern wedding band. This ring has Birmingham hallmarks, made c. 1900.

This ring is in excellent antique condition. It is a finger size 10.5 and can be resized.
