Marcus & Co. Black Opal Ring
Marcus & Co. Black Opal Ring
Sometimes, we want our jewelry to be a little demure, mysterious. Gems like we’ve seen in old tapestries of mythological figures emerging from the mist. Or from old paintings of legendary heroes. Jewels peeking out of cloaks. Bright flashes the color of shadow.
Here, a gem worthy of legend, a stunning Edwardian Marcus & Co. black opal and platinum ring. Marcus & Co. a spectacular New York house, known for their strong use of color, particularly magnificent opals. And this one is pretty magnificent. The elongated oval opal cabochon, ⅝” in length, is bezel-set in a lovely engraved platinum setting with pierced floral shoulders. It was made c. 1910. Stamped "Marcus" on the interior.
This ring is in excellent antique condition. Its finger size is just a bit over 6.5 and can be resized.
