Carved Carnelian Ring
Carved Carnelian Ring
Whether it’s the Queen’s pond or the local park, we love to watch them gliding gracefully on the water. The long, curved necks, the crisp white feathers. Perhaps a little group of cygnets floating in tow. They may not be the most friendly of creatures, but we have never been able to deny the swan’s beauty. And as a result, they grace objects across the span of decorative arts.
Here, a swan was lovingly carved in a rectangular carnelian sugarloaf cabochon alongside a floral motif. The coral is prong set with a thin channel of black enamel surrounding the setting. Three single cut diamonds are set into each shoulder. The diamonds are set in platinum; the rest of the ring is fashioned in 18K yellow gold that tapers into a delicate band.
This ring was made in the early 20th Century. It is signed <FFF> for F. & F. Felger, a Newark based jewelry house that supplied pieces to Cartier and Tiffany & Co. from the 1920s-1950. This piece would have been made on the early end of that timespan.
This ring is in excellent antique condition, with the smallest blemish to the enamel. It is presently finger size 6 and can be resized.
