Jade has been coveted across millennia, continents and cultures. It has been particularly notable in Chinese culture for centuries, where it symbolized wisdom, offered protection and was passed through generations as important family heirlooms. During the Chinoiserie moment of the early 20th century, Western jewelry began to feature jade, and pendants such as this came about.
Carved with floral motifs from in a luxurious green color and hung from a 14 karat gold bale with black and red enamel, it’s easy to feel the allure of this singular gemstone. It has been coveted the world over for centuries, a tradition that shows no signs of changing anytime soon. This pendant is in excellent antique condition. Made c. 1920 during the Art Deco period. It measures 2.0” long and 0.875” wide.
