Aesthetic Movement Bangle

$0.00

This wide silver bracelet is both steeped in history and refreshingly unique.  It’s a gorgeous exemplar of the 1870s-1880s Aesthetic Movement, a revolutionary approach to design rooted in ideals of simplicity and naturalism. As evoked by this bracelet, the movement found its greatest inspiration in the arts and aesthetics of Japan, known as japonaiserie , which had only recently been introduced to the Western world. Typically, this piece features an asymmetrical juxtaposition of smooth, geometric lines with naturalistic themes like flowers, a single bird and butterfly, and bulrushes. These motifs are rendered with yellow and rose gold accents, a characteristic style inspired by the Japanese alloy techniques of shakudo and shibuichi. Approx 1 ½ inches wide, this piece is wonderfully light and closes with a hidden clasp.

This bracelet is in good antique condition.
