Silky Victorian Necklace
Silky Victorian Necklace
To adorn oneself in gold, we’ve seen it the world over for centuries. This piece joined the world c. 1870 during the Victorian era, with design inspiration from antiquity. The Etruscans were an ancient people who flourished on the Western coast of Italy from approximately 700-300 BC. Some of their richly laden tombs were discovered in the 19th century, capturing Victorian imaginations and inspiring a whole genre of jewelry and decorative arts, to which this necklace belongs.
A 18K yellow gold Victorian flat chain necklace. It has a silky feel from three woven lines of alternating oval links with a beaded border. The flexibility allows it to lay just right. The tongue clasp closure has applied Etruscan style detail down its center. It was made c. 1870.
This necklace is in excellent antique condition. It measures 17.5" long.
