Sometimes we like to envision turn-of-the-20th Century Newark, NJ.  Horse drawn carriages, bustle skirts, shapely boots buttoned past the ankle as they dart down sidewalks and promenades. Where were they going, perhaps to visit some of the finest jewelry houses, the likes of which to rival London and Paris? Perhaps to pick up a treat, a treasured gift, a new jewel.

This jewel has style that could only be from that time, the Art Nouveau era to be specific. A soft edged triangle with a vein of blue enamel surrounds a bezel-set faceted round sapphire. The back is signed with an arrow pierced crescent, the moon maker's mark of Whiteside & Blank, a prominent Newark, NJ jeweler known for this style. Converted from a stick pin, it hangs from a modern 18" 14K yellow gold chain with a spring ring clasp. The best part, no clasp will make its way to the front, it never slides and sits perfectly all the time. 

This necklace is in excellent antique (pendant) and modern (chain) condition.
