The Moon’s Face Brooch

$22,000.00

Whose face do you see on the moon? Cultures the world over have their own stories of how someone came to be, what they did to get there. Putting aside whether they are friend or foe, we take a minute to marvel at how this marvelous orb, battered since time immemorial by objects of space, came to have the smattering of features we call face.

And here, a woman in the moonstone. We think she may be the Roman goddess Flora, goddess of springtime and flowers, suggested by the garland in her hair and herb at her shoulder. Her hair and dress are also of the Roman persuasion.

This piece can be worn as either a brooch or a pendant. The oval carved moonstone face is bezel set with a prong-set diamond and multi gem surround. All stones are set in 14K yellow gold. It was made c. 1900.

This brooch/pendant is in excellent antique condition. It measures 1.5" in length.
