Edwardian Butterfly Brooch/Pendant

$5,800.00

We’ve all heard the story as little ones. Perhaps then read it to little ones of your own. A very hungry little friend makes his way through all manner of treats, all in service to becoming a beautiful butterfly. We all contain multitudes. Likewise, this piece has a brooch mechanism as well as a bail from which to string a chain. You choose how you’d like this little creature to be!

An exquisite Edwardian butterfly brooch. A hinged bail is folded away behind the head, should you wish to wear it as a pendant instead. Delicate platinum-topped wings are set with round old cut diamonds and bright green demantoid garnets. A lovely ruby and pearl body with pierce work wings set with lovely old cut diamonds and additional demantoid garnets. Demantoid garnets were incredibly popular during the Edwardian design period (late 19th-early 20th C.); this piece was made during that time c.1900. Warm toned-gems as well as the brooch mechanism are in 18K yellow gold.

This brooch is in excellent antique condition. It measures 1.75" in width.
