Renaissance Intaglio Ring
Renaissance Intaglio Ring
During the Renaissance, engraved gems were viewed as a perfect collaboration of mankind’s artistry and the wonders of the natural world. Here, we see a lapidary artist of the late Renaissance has skillfully utilized the natural banding of a sardonyx stone in this portrait intaglio of a bearded classical figure. Later in the Victorian era, the treasured cameo was set into an 18k yellow gold signet ring, and the missing lower portion lovingly repaired with gold. This ring is currently a size 5 ½, and can be resized upon request.
