During the 19^th century, when hopes soared high oftentimes it was riding on the wings of a swallow. Swallows have been symbolic since ancient times, and during the Victorian era were well-known scions of hope and good luck for sailors. If a swallow was sighted at sea, it meant land was nearby. Not only land, but also safety, rest, and perhaps home. This pendant depicts a detailed swallow with a carefully feathered coat and set with a round faceted ruby eye. Converted from an antique pin into a necklace and suspended from a 14 karat yellow gold chain. A wonderful trinket to remind of hope on the horizon.

This necklace is in excellent antique condition. It was converted into a necklace from a brooch and measures 16.5” long, and the pendant measures 1.25” wide.
