Pools of Light Chain
Pools of Light Chain
This antique necklace dates to the Art Deco era c. 1920 – 1930. Aside from being a purely fun piece to wear, part of its allure stems from the Chinoiserie movement of its era. Each bead is a perfect sphere of rock crystal, fondly called ‘pools of light’ for the way they capture light and magnify it. Unlike the usual fabrication of beads, they are not drilled through, but instead wrapped in silver wire. This is because rock crystal was thought to carry ‘chi’, or good energy, and if drilled the chi would escape.
We could all use a stockpile of good energy, this is just one of the more elegant ways to accomplish that. The chain is silver and in total it measures 52.0” long.
