Elaborate Georgian Chain with Hand Clasp
Elaborate Georgian Chain with Hand Clasp
The Georgian period is famous for its chains, and this opulent example, handmade in 14K gold, makes it easy to see why. Long, solid links of rose gold, stamped with stars, are intermitten with sections of intricately woven engraved yellow gold links with rose gold rondels. The clasp takes the shape of an outstretched hand, characteristic of Georgian chains; this particularly ornate example is adorned with a tiny ring and bracelet, both set with turquoise, and floral details in rose and green golds. This piece is substantial at 41”, and can be worn as a single or double loop. Most likely American, c. 1810-1840
This chain is in very good antique condition. There is some tarnish on the clasp, and one link is not original to the piece.
