Greek Key and Diamond Locket

$0.00

Timeless may be the best descriptor for this lovely locket, which seamlessly combines early 20th century sensibilities with inspiration from the ancient world. A thin 14K yellow gold disc with a subtly matted finish is bordered both front and back with an engraved Greek key, or meander, design. Prevalent in the classical world and particularly popular during the 17th through early-mid 20th centuries, this motif recalls a labyrinth and is thought to originally symbolize infinity and unity. The front of the locket has at its center a bright Old Mine cut diamond, approx. .20ctw and flush set. The reverse features a set of initials in an ornate, interlocking scroll style—so ornate, in fact, that we’re not entirely sure what they are! The piece measures 1 ⅛ inches, and hinges at the bottom. American, c. 1920

This locket is in very good antique condition.
