Greek Key and Diamond Locket
Greek Key and Diamond Locket
Timeless may be the best descriptor for this lovely locket, which seamlessly combines early 20th century sensibilities with inspiration from the ancient world. A thin 14K yellow gold disc with a subtly matted finish is bordered both front and back with an engraved Greek key, or meander, design. Prevalent in the classical world and particularly popular during the 17th through early-mid 20th centuries, this motif recalls a labyrinth and is thought to originally symbolize infinity and unity. The front of the locket has at its center a bright Old Mine cut diamond, approx. .20ctw and flush set. The reverse features a set of initials in an ornate, interlocking scroll style—so ornate, in fact, that we’re not entirely sure what they are! The piece measures 1 ⅛ inches, and hinges at the bottom.
