Victorian gentlemen were very into jewelry. One of our favorite types of gent’s jewelry are watch fobs —charms that were attached to a watch chain. They might serve as a counterweight to the pocket watch, but often were purely decorative. For those of us who don’t carry a gold pocket watch, they also make very beautiful and interesting pendants. This gold fob is set with a particularly handsome intaglio of a Roman soldier, carved in banded agate.
