Victorian Amphora Earrings
Victorian Amphora Earrings
These earrings take the form of amphorae – the quintessential vessels of antiquity recognizable for their slender and elegant form. Historically, amphorae were used to age and transport wine, so these are sure to stir up a good time. They were made c. 1880 during the classical revival period – when motifs from the ancient world captured the attention of Victorian society. Greek key motifs decorate the tops – a classical symbol for infinity and eternal motion.
These earrings are in excellent antique condition. Made in 15 karat yellow gold, they measure 1.75” long excluding the wire tops and 0.5” wide.
