Victorian Guard Chain
Victorian Guard Chain
The Victorian guard chain was designed to be utilitarian; to carry a pocket watch tucked into the waistband, to wear extra long, doubled or tripled; to host a wax seal pendant, locket or lorgnette. Not only does this 55” chain meet all those tasks, but it is also treasure in itself. The links are larger than average to carry bold pendants, each one if the links is handmade in warm 18 karat gold with a smooth finish, and the chain itself achieves the suppleness of fabric. It was made in France c. 1900 and it still stands at the crossroads of utilitarian and luxury a century later. In excellent antique condition.
