Etruscan Revival Necklace

$8,800.00

Gold chains in untold forms have been made and worn the world over for centuries. This one joins their ranks from its own unique place in history. Handmade c. 1880 during the Victorian era, but drawing on inspirations from antiquity. The Etruscans were an ancient people who flourished on the Western coast of Italy from approximately 700-300 BC, and a series of their richly laden tombs were discovered in the 19th century. This captured Victorian imaginations and inspired a whole genre of jewelry and decorative arts, to which this necklace belongs. In keeping with Etruscan revival motifs, this necklace is made in richly colored gold, features detailed wirework, woven patterns, and beading.

This necklace is in excellent antique condition. Made in 19 karat yellow gold, it measures 18” long, 0.50” wide and features a large ring clasp that is plenty strong for your boldest pendants.
