Victorian Shields with Etruscan Wirework
Victorian Shields with Etruscan Wirework
Simple and wearable yet substantial and exquisitely detailed, these 14K yellow gold Victorian earrings are both beautiful and versatile. Flowers and geometric patterns adorn shield-like bodies, surmounted by an arch and a sphere at the base of the ear wire. Enduringly relevant, these earrings showcase wirework in Etruscan revival style. This look came to prominence during the second half of the 19th century, when contemporary excavations of ancient tombs in Italy unearthed troves of jewelry whose elaborate, granulated metalwork fascinated jewelers and jewelry buyers alike. The impressive workmanship extends beyond the surface: while appearing fairly solid from the front, these earrings are hollow and very light and comfortable.
These earrings are in good antique condition and measure 1 ⅝ inches.
