Victorian Piqué Drop Earrings
Allow us to piqué your interest:
‘Piqué work’ refers to finely wrought designs of gold or silver inlayed into tortoiseshell. The technique originated in the 17th century, and thenceforth was produced all over western Europe on jewels, combs and little objet de vertu. This pair of earrings, with their dramatic torpedo drops, surely date to the later 19th century, towards the end of piqué’s popularity.
Victorian piqué torpedo earrings with silver hooks and geometric yellow gold inlay. Measure 2.25" in length.
