Victorian Turquoise Swallow Brooch

$0.00

One of our favorite pieces of all time…a Victorian pave turquoise swallow with diamond-set head and ruby eyes. Gems are set in silver, and on the swallow’s golden belly the carefully-engraved inscpription “Left by Great Grandmama Caroline, to whom it had been given by papa, 1848.“ The brooch mechanism is removable so the piece may be worn as a pendant. Similar brooches were gifted by Queen Victoria to her bridesmaids on the occasion of her 1840 marriage to Prince Albert.

Swallow measures 1.5” from beak to tail, and has a wingspan of 2.25 inches.
