Collingwood of Conduit Street Starburst Brooch/Pendant

$7,600.00

The passing of Halley’s comet in 1835 inspired cosmic jewels such as this starburst brooch for decades to come. When it came again in 1910 the world looked very different, and then again in 1986 it passed by satellites for the first time. In 2061 it’ll be back, and what a new world it will behold. Yet this brooch, made c.1870 will be one familiar face.

Made by jewelers and medal makers to the British royal family, Collingwood of Conduit Street, who were among the finest retail jewelers in London, and whose quality is evidenced by regular business from Prince Albert and Queen Victoria herself. It has survived one hundred fifty years with its fitted, signed box, which even details the address they occupied from 1830-1987; 46 Conduit Street W1. In excellent antique condition, set with 3.40 carats of Old Cut diamonds of approximately I/SI1 quality in silver on yellow gold. Times change, but some things stay delightfully the same.

A bale has been added to this brooch allowing it to be worn as a pendant. A variety of gold chains are available separately for purchase.
