Aesthetic Silver Book Chain

1,100.00

A great silver, Victorian book chain with big flat links, aesthetic-style engraving and a large spring-ring closure. During the Aesthetic movement, c. 1870-1880, Western takes on Japanese art appeared on everything from teapots to jewelry. Many striking jewels were fabricated in silver, and feature japanesque motifs like fans, flowers, bamboo and birds engraved on bold, geometric silver pieces. This particular chain is engraved with stylized oak leaves, a traditional Japanese symbol of fall. It measures 18 inches in length, and looks great worn on its own or with a big locket.

This piece is in very good antique condition, with minor discoloration on the backside of the links (not visible when worn).
